Iittala & Arabia Design Centre, Design Lab Gallery, 8th floor
FULLY BOOKED | The bowl workshop by ceramic artist Eva Spoof is a two-day experimental introductory pottery workshop for participants to get the feel for the basics of wheel-throwing techniques, such as centering, shaping and trimming. The participants will make their own stoneware bowls. No previous knowledge of pottery or working with clay is required.
The bowl enjoys a unique position in the world of tableware. It is used around the world by all cultures. As an object, it is closest to its original form idea – perhaps one reason why it has remained unchanged for thousands of years. The bowl’s simple form is universal, and it can be used for serving and storing food, as well as a decorative object. The bowl conforms perfectly to the shape of the human hand and is simply brilliant in its timeless functionality.

The workshop will be held on two consecutive days on the 8th floor of the Iittala & Arabia Design Centre from 12:00 to 15:00. To get to the 8th floor, use the lift in the centre’s lobby. During the intensive two-day workshop, participants will explore the use of clay as a creative material and learn basic ceramic techniques, including kneading and wheel throwing.
Clay and tools are included in the registration fee and all participants have access to a potter’s wheel during the workshop. We recommend wearing comfortable clothes that you do not mind getting clay on.
Working with clay is a slow process and we can’t give you the exact time, when the items are fired in our kiln – and if they all come out intact. Therefore, we can't guarantee that your all items will make it (trough drying and firing) but we will do our best at all stages of the process. We will inform you when they are ready, so remember to be patient.
The fee for the class is 110 € and registration is binding. Please do note, the first eight to sign up will be accepted into the workshop, therefore it is necessary to inform on cancellations at least 3 days prior the class. We will serve tea and coffee. If you have any further questions, please call +358 (0) 20 439 5326 (tue-sun 12-16) or email firstname.lastname@example.org
