FULLY BOOKED - EXPLORE THROWING ON THE POTTER'S WHEEL: POT
This workshop is led by ceramic artist Eva Spoof . The workshop will introduce you to the basics of throwing and each participant will practice how to throw a pot. Participation in this experimental workshop does not require any prior experience in throwing or working with ceramics.
On the first day, participants will throw pots, and the next day, two pieces will be finished. In addition, there will be a wide variety of exercises and we will familiarize ourselves with throwing techniques. You can later use your pot to plant something in the spring, for example.
The course will take place on two consecutive days from 12 noon to 3 pm. At the beginning of the workshop, participants will learn about the feel of different items, clay material and the basics of throwing. In the intensive training workshop, each participant will have access to a potter's wheel and the necessary tools and clay. The aim is to experiment with the basic techniques of throwing and explore the properties of clay as a creative material, from kneading to throwing and finishing an item.
As far as clothing is concerned, it is advisable to choose comfortable clothes and shoes that can get dirty. It is good to note that you will be sitting astride while throwing, so please take this into account in your clothing. The course will take place at the Iittala & Arabia Design Centre.
Working with clay is a slow process and we can’t give you the exact time, when the items are fired in our kiln – and if they all come out intact. We will inform you when the flower pots are ready, so remember to be patient.
Please note that registration is binding. A maximum of 8 persons will be accepted on the course in order of registration, so it is essential that possible cancelations are notified at least 7 days before the start of the course. The course is aimed at adults.
